Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen Prediction & Preview
A 1-0 win away at VfB Stuttgart on 19 September is the Borussia Dortmund result that matters most heading into Friday's Bundesliga meeting with SV Werder Bremen, because it was the first time in this run that Niko Kovac's side had to win without scoring freely. They managed it anyway. That is the problem Daniel Thioune has to solve at Signal Iduna Park.

Six wins from six, and the narrowest came last
Dortmund have won their last six matches across all competitions, scoring 17 and conceding 4. Before Stuttgart there was a 3-0 home win over SC Paderborn 07, a 3-2 Champions League win over Villarreal, a 3-2 win away at TSG Hoffenheim, a 5-0 DFB Pokal win at Hamburg-Eimsbütteler Ballspiel Club 1911 and a 2-0 home win against Hamburger SV.
Two of those were 3-2. This is not a side that shuts games down early, and Hoffenheim showed they will concede twice and still expect to win. The Stuttgart result suggests they have added the other way of doing it.
Werder Bremen's form points both ways
Three wins, one draw and two defeats from their last six, with 11 scored and 9 conceded. The headline is the 3-1 home win over RB Leipzig on 5 September, which is as good a result as any Bundesliga side outside the top few has managed this autumn.
The two defeats came earliest: 0-1 at home to Auxerre in a friendly on 15 August, then 1-4 away at SC Freiburg on 30 August. Since Freiburg they have not lost - the Leipzig win, a 1-1 draw away at 1. FC Köln and a 3-2 home win over FC Augsburg on 19 September. A side that beats Leipzig and loses by three at Freiburg is hard to read, but the trend since the end of August is upward.
The last meeting was 146 days before this one. Bremen were at home and Dortmund won it 2-0.
Team news: Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen
Dortmund have two defensive doubts. Nico Schlotterbeck damaged the lateral ligament in his right ankle in Germany training and will not need surgery, but his availability for this match is unclear, beIN Sports reported. Julian Ryerson came off after a quarter of an hour of Norway's match against Wales with a rib injury and is also in doubt, with no obvious replacement at right-back, according to RotoWire and Get German Football News.
Bremen's break was worse. Goalkeeper Karl Hein left Estonia's camp early with muscular problems and faces assessment in Bremen, Felix Agu was withdrawn from international duty with a muscle issue and Cedric Itten took a blow to the foot with Switzerland, per Yahoo Sports. Striker Salim Musah is out until the new year with a serious muscle injury picked up with Germany's under-20s, which Thioune called a bitter setback, Bulinews reported.
Borussia Dortmund vs SV Werder Bremen prediction
Borussia Dortmund should beat SV Werder Bremen in this Bundesliga match at Signal Iduna Park on Friday, 9 October 2026. Six wins and four goals conceded in that stretch is the clearest thing on the page, and Dortmund already went to Bremen in May and won 2-0.
Bremen will carry a threat. They have scored 11 in six and three in each of their last two home wins, and Dortmund have twice shipped two goals in this run. Call it comfortable rather than clean.
