Serbia and Greece open their 2026-27 UEFA Nations League campaign against each other on Thursday, 24 September, the first of six league-phase matches each side plays in Group A2.

Serbia's absentees and Tadić's return

Manager Veljko Paunović named his squad for the September window without three key names. Aleksandar Mitrović, Nikola Milenković and Predrag Rajković all miss the Greece game. Dušan Tadić returns to the squad after a two-year absence, and Stefan Džodić, Petar Sukačev and Lazar Nikolić are in line to win their first caps.

Serbia's recent results have been rough. They lost 3-0 to Spain on 27 March, beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 four days later, then lost 3-0 to Cabo Verde and 5-1 to Mexico either side of the summer. That's 12 goals conceded in four matches, with only the Saudi Arabia game won.

Greece target survival in their first League A campaign

This is Greece's first appearance in League A. Ivan Jovanović's side won promotion with a 3-0 win away to Scotland in the play-offs, and the manager has been open about the size of the task ahead: "Our goal is certainly to remain in the top seeding group. We are aware that difficult matches await us, but we will be ready and we will give everything to achieve our objective."

Greece haven't won any of their last four matches either, but none have been heavy defeats. They lost 1-0 to Paraguay, drew 0-0 with Hungary, drew 2-2 with Sweden and lost 1-0 to Italy.

Germany and the Netherlands loom in Group A2

Serbia and Greece share Group A2 with Germany and the Netherlands. Each side plays six group matches between September and November, with the top two advancing straight to the quarter-finals and the third-placed team facing a relegation play-off against a League B runner-up. Whichever side loses on Thursday goes into their next games, against Germany and the Netherlands, already behind in the group.
