Manchester United host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Sunday, 30 August 2026, in the Premier League, with kick-off at 16:30 BST. United are still searching for their first league win of the season after an opening-day defeat, while newly promoted Ipswich arrive on the back of two straight wins in all competitions.
United's season opened with a 2-0 loss away to Hull City on 22 August, their only competitive fixture so far. Their pre-season form was mixed: a 2-1 win over Atlético Madrid, a 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain, a wild 6-5 win against Leeds United, and a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan.
Ipswich have had a stronger start. They beat Sunderland 2-1 in their Premier League opener on 22 August, then followed it with a 3-1 win over Leicester City in the EFL Cup on 25 August. Their pre-season included wins over Union Berlin, Rayo Vallecano, Le Havre and Wycombe Wanderers, with their only defeat coming against Oxford United.
Manchester United could be without Carlos Baleba, a summer signing from Brighton and Hove Albion, who is a doubt for this game. Amad Diallo missed the Hull City defeat through injury but is in contention to return, and Mason Mount, out since picking up a foot injury in the PSG friendly, is pushing for involvement. Matthijs de Ligt has not played since suffering a back injury in November 2025.
Ipswich Town are without Jack Taylor, who has a knee injury, and Azor Matusiwa, who is also sidelined.
Manchester United will edge past Ipswich Town at Old Trafford in the Premier League, but it won't be comfortable. United go into the game with an unwanted run of results behind them and injury doubts over Baleba, Mount and de Ligt, while Ipswich arrive with genuine momentum from back-to-back competitive wins over Sunderland and Leicester City. That form, and United's need to put right the Hull City defeat, points to a tight game rather than a routine home win.
