Neither side has won more than once in the league lately

Bournemouth's last four Premier League games read 2-1 defeat away at Manchester City, a 1-1 draw with Everton, a 2-2 draw at Newcastle United and a 2-2 draw with Brentford. That is three points from four matches and no league win since the opening weeks of the season.

Liverpool's league form is only marginally better. A 2-2 draw at Newcastle United and a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest were followed by a 2-0 win at Ipswich Town, then a goalless draw at home to Fulham. One win in four, same as their opponents this weekend.

Cup competitions have gone the other way for both clubs

Away from the league, both have been winning. Bournemouth beat Lincoln City 4-0 in the EFL Cup and then won 2-1 away at Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday. Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in the EFL Cup and Atlético Madrid 2-1 in the Champions League. Whatever is going wrong in the league for these two, it has not carried into Europe or the domestic cups.

The turnaround is tighter for Bournemouth. Their win in San Sebastián came on Thursday night, two days after Liverpool's EFL Cup tie against Spurs, which leaves Andoni Iraola's side with less recovery time before kick-off.

Team news

Liverpool's injury list is unchanged going into the weekend. Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni remain long-term absentees, and Federico Chiesa is out with a back problem.

Bournemouth are missing Junior Kroupi, Amine Adli, Veljko Milosavljevic and Julian Araujo through injury. Asked about further fitness concerns, Iraola was clear:

No, everyone is ready to go.

Bournemouth vs Liverpool FC prediction

Liverpool FC to win a tight Premier League game at Bournemouth, on the back of a slightly fresher week and marginally sharper cup form. Both sides have gone four league games without finding consistency, but Liverpool's win over Atlético Madrid and comfortable EFL Cup victory over Tottenham suggest more control in games than Bournemouth's draws with Newcastle and Brentford have shown. Bournemouth's quick turnaround from Thursday's trip to Spain is the bigger concern of the two.

Our prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Liverpool FC
