How to playFor long stretches the match looked destined for a goalless draw. Platense arrived well organised in a compact defensive block, denying the hosts space in behind and frustrating their attempts to build rhythm through the middle. Argentinos had the better of possession and worked the ball into dangerous areas on several occasions, yet the visitors' defensive discipline held firm and the final ball repeatedly let the home side down.
The match began to open up in the second half as Argentinos pushed higher and the game became more stretched. Platense threatened on the counter, testing the home defence with quick transitions that required sharp positioning and concentration at the back. It was a match defined by moments rather than sustained dominance, and it was one such moment that ultimately settled it.
Deep into injury time, with the game seemingly drifting towards a share of the spoils, Lescano found the net in the 90th minute to send the home supporters into raptures and hand Argentinos Juniors a crucial three points. The goal was a reward for relentless pressure throughout and ensured the hosts claimed maximum reward from a match they controlled without ever convincingly breaking down a stubborn Platense outfit.
